the softest part of the heart

the softest part of the heart

the softest part of the heart
is moving toward tenderness
is emerging from the trees
and taking a step forward
and going into the ocean
the gentle heart inside the heart
is moving very slowly
is looking at the sky and waves shyly
it’s heard the roar of the ocean before
it’s heart the drums of thunder before
it’s bolted like lightening back into the dark trees
if you call it forth with quiet songs, it comes
if you send a whisper of wind, it listens
the softest part of the heart
is searching for a soft bed to sleep on
is longing for the water
is hungry for the rocking arms of the ocean
is forgetting what lies beneath
does not know the currents and deep trenches below
does not see the rocks and hot eruptions
the roiling and churning of the ocean floor
disrupting the calm of the water
all it wants is the softness of dying waves
the bubbles and foam at it’s feet
the softest part of the heart
is lured by soft things
and that’s how love begins
