My poem honoring the Chibok girls

It’s been a year since the girls of Government Secondary School Chibok were kidnapped by Boko Haram. Few of us can fathom or survive what these girls have had to witness, experience, endure. My poem honoring the Chibok girls is one of both grief and hope, a song of remembrance. I’d like to imagine that our songs can surge forth to wherever the girls are and give them strength or a modicum of courage, some solace in knowing that we will never forget them. But this means we have to keep on singing.
